E18: Oh My God What Happened to Pitchfork (Feat. Jeff Weiss)

Plus, an announcement.

nersey is back and better than ever, babeyyyyy! we’re joined by the one and only jeff weiss to talk about conde nast’s bizarre and overarchingly tragic decision to kneecap pitchfork and fold it into GQ, thereby ending music journalism as we have known it all our lives. our conversation is funny in a “god this sucks” kind of way. then we offer up our predictions for the year 2024 and jeff judges them because he is a Professional Critic. also, “josh” is the new word for “mid.”

we’re turning on the paywall, please subscribe

btw, you will notice from the “call to action” above that we have “turned on the paywall” over here. we were initially planning on chopping this episode with jeff in half and releasing the second half for paying subscribers only, but it turned out that the recent layoffs at pitchfork were only the beginning of a truly unconscionable week to have a job in media, which we know lots of our listeners do. so, rather than asking people to pay to hear our cathartically angry conversation with jeff in full, we’re making this episode free. in the future, we’re going to be releasing subscriber-only pods and other “exclusive” bits of “content” such as playlists, sick blogs, and trey’s home address.

why are we doing this? well, two of us still don’t have jobs (slava is a millwright tho), and our unfathomably talented producer steel tipped dove deserves to be paid way more for his contributions. plus drew would at least like to make the money back on the two used books he read to teach himself graphic design.

HAVING SAID THAT: if you’re a recently laid-off media worker or even just a media worker who’s been negatively affected by this doodoo-ass economic times and would like the FULL NERSEY EXPERIENCE without spending the money that you suddenly have way less of, reach out to drew on twitter (his DMs are open) and he’ll hook you up with a free subscription.

we’ve also spent the past three months working very hard on a series that we genuinely think is worth paying for. it is coming out soon and we’re so excited about it that we might just fuck around and open up a patreon to give you multiple ways to pay us to listen to it. to get a sense of what’s coming, here is the art:

seems like a pretty cool thing right? so sign up pls
